What is GDPR? The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), effective May 25, 2018, will more stringently govern how organizations doing business in Europe collect, process and store the personal information of individuals living in EU countries.
GDPR’s compliance requirements go beyond just online retailers and global marketers. RPOs, HR organizations and corporate legal officers also must take notice because GDPR encompasses the privacy protections of job candidates in their companies’ ATSs and the employees and former employees in their workforce management and learning management systems.
It’s not the first data privacy regime, but another big piece in a complicated patchwork of disparate global regulations that multinational firms need to meet or will risk fines of up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20 million (whichever is greater).
